Washington turns French unrest into an election warning. Paris sends back its national résumé.

In MEGA's imaginary White House editing suite, France has been hired to play America's future. The role requires flames, dramatic music and absolutely no questions about the producer's previous work.
On 28 October, the White House's X account used French unrest to warn Americans about a future under Democrats. Its video contrasted disorder with an idealized earlier France. Millions of people had been successfully compressed into a campaign backdrop. The extras weren't consulted either.
French Response, the foreign ministry's rebuttal account, answered with public-health improvements and tourism credentials. Paris had apparently mistaken a political attack ad for a disappointing hotel review.

Washington's pitch turns an ally's emergency into an audition tape for the opposition. Paris counters with the national branding normally printed beside a breakfast buffet. Missing from both brochures: the citizen who wants an ordinary Tuesday, a working classroom and politicians who can discuss disorder without first checking whose election it might help.

The trouble isn't imaginary: France's Interior Ministry reported attacks, injuries and damaged businesses after the 24 October demonstrations. Calling that a campaign opportunity does nothing for the people living through it.

France still owes its citizens functioning services and safe streets. Washington still owes its voters an argument. Instead, one government exports catastrophe and the other returns a brochure. Neither document doubles as a fire extinguisher.
